Creamy Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie

What a weekend! We ended up going to my husband friend’s surprise birthday party where my whole 30 / paleo routine was brought to an abrupt holt. Pizza, beer and cake were all on display with not a green in sight. When we got home on Saturday we were in need of lots of greens and a detox.

So on Sunday I headed to the gym, and as I was getting my sweat on I was dreaming of the bacon that was in our fridge. I got home to find out my husband threw it out…let me tell you I was not pleased! After pacing in the kitchen for a while not knowing what to do –  it was time to get creative.

I soaked the pitted dates in warm water for about 10 minutes to get them soft. (The softer they are, the better they will blend). While they were soaking I grabbed my other ingredients – grounded flax seed, almond milk, almond butter, banana, cacao, and my Vega One protein. I added this all to my blender (along with the dates), and it came out to absolute perfection!

If you’re like me,  you probably can only go so long without something sweet, and this smoothie will satisfy any sweet tooth (and fill you up)! The banana and the almond butter make the smoothie really creamy, while the dates and cacao sweetened it up.

  1. I need more smoothies in my life! I’m so not a breakfast person so a smoothie seems like the most painless way to get all those nutrients you need to start your day off right. Can’t wait to see what other ideas you have in store!
